Camila de Moraes

Camila de Moraes is a journalist and graduate student in the B.I. of Arts with a concentration in audiovisual from the Federal University of Bahia. In the cinema area, she directed the feature-length documentary "The Case of the Wrong Man" that addresses the question of the genocide of black youth in Brazil. The filmmaker became the second black woman to enter the commercial circuit with a feature film after 36 years of silence in Brazil. The first black woman was Adélia Sampaio, in 1984, with the fictional feature “Amor Maldito”. Acclaimed, the feature was on the short list of pre-selected by the Ministry of Culture to represent Brazil and compete for the award for Best Foreign Film at the Oscar 2019. She is the creator and curator of the Black Cinema in Action Festival. project of a fiction series called “Somos Somos Pares” that addresses the lives of six black women and their relationships of friendship and love. Camila de Moraes also directed the short film “A Escrita do Seu Corpo”, which deals with the issue of racial and gender identity through poetry. She produced and co-roterized the documentary “Mãe de Gay” winner of two Golden Greyhounds at the Gramado Festival. She produced the fiction short film “Marcelina-with the eyes that the earth will eat”, by Alison Almeida, and production assistance for the documentary “Poesia Azeviche”, by Ailton Pinheiro. Camila de Moraes is from Rio Grande do Sul, but has lived in Salvador for ten years.
